Tripura University, a Central University established on 2nd July, 2007 under an Act of the Parliament, is a teaching and affiliating university in the state of Tripura. This university promotes teaching and research in the state of Tripura with the vision of offering educational and research opportunities to not just stakeholders in the Northeast region of India, but also across the country. Tripura University offers a vibrant campus life and one of the safest and most secure academic environments in the country. The Campus has a vast scenic landscape with lakes, forests, hillocks, flower and fruit gardens offering a serene and tranquil backdrop with groves of trees, the fragrance of flora, calls of the flocking birds, swarm of butterflies, reptiles etc. The Research and Development Cell of Tripura University, since its inception, has been coordinating all activities related to Research and Development, with a vision to excel through innovation, creativity and discovery by fulfilling the needs and aspirations of the country. This cell has been facilitating and enhancing partnerships and collaborations between researchers, government and industry; providing infrastructure and training that promote creativity and entrepreneurship by ensuring that the policies and programs are promoted in a culture of innovation while ensuring ethical compliance and fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. The Research and Development Cell has been on a multidisciplinary approach to promote collaborations at the local, regional, national and international levels. Since its inception, Tripura University has been dedicated to the cause of fostering an ecosystem for research and innovation. The ensuing National Conference on the broad theme of “Higher Education and Research: Towards a Transformative and Sustainable Society” envisioned by the Research and Development Cell, Tripura University aims at accommodating and synthesizing diverse disciplines and fields of study at all levels of higher education and research. Globally at present, there are immense challenges at the economic, social, and environmental levels which are threatening our planetary boundaries for which efforts are needed at the local, regional, national and global levels. Higher educational institutions which are at the forefront of scientific and technological advances, are acting as change agents by offering significant opportunities to deliver impactful knowledge in every sector across all nations, acting as anchors in the communities they serve both nationally and internationally. With these thoughts and insights in view, this conference aims at focusing and foregrounding 10 multidisciplinary sub-themes that may sensitize scholars and researchers on the current and future challenges against the backdrop of the UN Sustainable Development goals.
